JoAnn Sansalone Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Homes - Garnerville from Jun. 22 to Jun. 27, 2024.
JoAnn Riker Sansalone of Stony Point, NY passed away suddenly June 20, 2024. Beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister and friend.
Born on October 10, 1951, to Harry "Ran" Riker and Mary Morstatt Riker, one of their ten children. JoAnn grew up in Stony Point and graduated as part of the last class from Haverstraw High School. She spent many years raising her two daughters as a stay-at-home mom, before returning to the work force as a waitress for Lynch's restaurant in Tompkins Cove, NY. JoAnn went on to work in the shipping and receiving department of the Louis Hornick curtain manufacturer in Haverstraw, NY, eventually moving on to Mid Rockland imaging in New City, NY until she retired in 2013.
JoAnn is predeceased by the love of her life, John Sansalone. John and JoAnn were married April 11, 1970, after meeting while both working at the Nanuet Mall. JoAnn was a clerk for Bamburger department store and John as an auto tech for Sears Auto department, where they had carpooled together. After starting their family in Highland Falls, NY, they would return to their roots to raise their children surrounded by family and friends in the North Rockland community. JoAnn became a leader in the Girls Scouts of America, but truly shined as a coach and eventually President of cheerleading in the North Rockland Pop Warner cheerleading league. She was lovingly known as the mom who taught the Mighty Mites how to do a cartwheel by example. In her free time, she loved to tend to her gardens and to sit on her deck with a good cup of coffee to watch the birds at her many feeders.
JoAnn is survived by her daughters, Jennifer McGrady and her husband Richard and Jessica Vooght and her husband James. Grandmother to Abigail and Bailey McGrady and known as "Grammy" to many. JoAnn is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, as well as her two sisters, a brother, and friends.
Services will take place at TJ McGowan funeral home at 71 Central Highway Garnerville, NY Friday June 28 for 4-8pm. Private burial to follow.
