Joanne Boswell, a beloved member of the Andalusia community, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Born and raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Joanne moved to Andalusia after marrying the love of her life, Jim Boswell, and quickly made the town her home.
Joanne was a woman of many passions. She worked at Covington County Bank and then helped run Boswell Interiors. She made a lasting impact on the city, making history in 1977 as the first woman elected to the Andalusia City Council and playing a vital role in bringing the Babe Ruth World Series to town.
An accomplished golfer, Joanne also enjoyed playing Bridge and Canasta, making many cherished, lifelong friends. She shared her love of music by teaching piano lessons and singing in the choir at St. Mary's. Joanne had a deep affection for Alabama and Bulldog football, as well as her family and beloved pets.
Memorial services for Mrs. Boswell will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with visitation beginning at 10 AM. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Andalusia Area Humane Society.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jimmy Grimes of Andalusia; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Linda Boswell of Freeport, FL; grandchildren, Taylor (Shanea) Boswell, Sam Bowell, Catalina Boswell and Esbeide Boswell; two great grandchildren, Jack Brave Boswell and Jabin Valor Boswell; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Herb and Suzanne Boswell of Raleigh, NC.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Boswell and parents, Joseph Marvin Lawrence and Clyde Rountree Lawrence.
