Joanne M. Cota, 99, of Advance, NC passed away on November 9, 2024. She was born July 26, 1925 in Peacham, Vermont. Joanne was the devoted daughter of the late Yutaka Minakuchi and the late Nellie Cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant grandson, Joseph Dodwell Fortune and dear brother in law, William G. Morrissey. Joanne was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She worked at Meredith College for many years and found a passion for creative writing during this time. Joanne had a deep love for animals, always surrounding herself with Bassett Hounds who were as much a part of her family as anyone else. Her kindness and compassion touched every creature she met. She loved spending time with her family, frequently traveling up and down the east coast from Florida to New Hampshire making special memories with them.
Joanne is survived by her younger sister Francena Morrissey; daughters Sharolyn Cota; Linda Bessette (Roger), Diane Fortune (Rick) and Lori Hewett (Ron). She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, whom she cherished – Marc Bessette (Dawn Goslin), Suzanne Thompson (Jason), Nicholas Fortune (Kelly), Taylor Hewett (Dana) and Sarah Jo Adams (Ben). Joanne was blessed to have six great grandchildren, Reese and Corrine Bessette, Eli Fortune, Ethan and Mason Thompson and Carson Hewett.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, 108 East Kinderton Way, Advance, NC 27006.
In lieu of flowers, Joanne would have wanted donations sent to the Carolina Bassett Hound Rescue.
