Joanne Moroney (nee Farley) passed away on September 4, 2025 at home, with her children and husband at her side.
Joanne was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on February 4, 1949 to Helen and Edwin "Buzz" Farley. She was raised in the Vailsburg section of Newark, NJ, a source of pride that stayed with her throughout her life. She graduated from Archbishop Walsh High School in 1967. After graduation, she began her career with Prudential and subsequently worked for US Life and AIG before retiring in 2014.
On May 8, 1971, Joanne married Charles Moroney. Together they raised three children, Joseph, Catherine, and Edward. The family first lived in Summit, New Jersey, before moving to Brick Township in 1981, where they made their home.
Joanne loved many things in life. She loved New Jersey's boardwalks; she loved collecting things; she loved playing bingo; she loved going to Atlantic City and Las Vegas; she loved playing slots; she loved Coca-Cola and collecting Coke memorabilia; she loved cruises and traveling; she loved football pools, basketball pools, baseball pools, Super Bowl pools – any kid of sports pool; and she loved the Kennedys and following the Royal Family. She also LOVED Christmas. It was her favorite holiday and she embraced it with great joy.
More than anything, Joanne loved her family. She adored her husband, children and grandchildren more than anything in the world and was happiest when surrounded by them. To her children she was "Mom" and to her grandchildren she was "Grandma," and she showered them with love and generosity, something she continued to do until her final days.
Anyone who knew Joanne knew her infectious laugh. She had a great sense of humor and was quick to laugh. She had a warm and generous heart and would help any friend or loved one in any way she could. She also had the Irish gift of stubbornness, a trait her family often found hilariously endearing. Even cancer was not immune from Joanne's stubbornness, as she fought off pancreatic cancer for nearly five years with remarkable and inspiring strength.
Joanne lived a wonderful life and she leaves her loved ones with an endless supply of great memories, wonderful stories and the warmth of her love that will stay with them forever. They will all miss her dearly.
Joanne was predeceased by her parents and her younger brother Thomas.
Joanne is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Charles; her children Joseph and his wife Sonya; daughter Catherine Moritz and her husband Bruce; and son Edward and his wife Julia; her grandchildren Riley, Ryan, Jordan, Megan, Ashley, Payton, Hunter and Violet;
her sister Maryellen O'Neill; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends whose lives she touched.
A memorial service for Joanne will be held on Wednesday, September 10 from 4pm-8pm at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Joanne's honor to be given to Memorial Sloan Kettering.
