Joanne Starr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pruitt Funeral Home - Royston on Feb. 4, 2026.
Mrs. Joanne Denny Starr passed away on February 2, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Joanne shared her love for others-and for Christ-through a lifetime of service. She taught preschoolers in Sunday School at Royston Baptist Church for more than 50 years and served for decades as a Pink Lady at Ty Cobb Memorial Hospital, where she was known for her kindness and steady presence. She was also a faithful friend to many at Brown Health & Rehabilitation Center. Joanne quietly cared for others by providing meals, offering rides, listening with compassion, and praying for her family and friends by name every day.

She is survived by her son, Jim Starr (Chris); son-in-law, Ed Floyd; grandchildren, Alexa Starr (Brian), Angelyn Shelnutt (Phillip), Graham Floyd (Cristen), and Truett Floyd (Morgan); great-grandchildren, Lane Shelnutt, Camille Floyd, Robert "Bert" Floyd, Charlotte Floyd, Paisley Floyd, Eleanor Floyd, Henry Floyd, Clara Floyd, and Hannah Starr; sister, Pat Thornton (Don); nephews, David Thornton (Debi) and Matthew Thornton (Amy), and their children, Ethan, Sarah, Jenna, Jansen, and Ted. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Starr; parents, Lonnie and Clara Winn Denny; children, Judy Floyd and infant son, James David; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Starr.

A graveside service for Mrs. Starr will be held in the Rose Hill Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026. During other times, the family will be at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Just People, which supports independent living for adults with disabilities and was home to Joanne's granddaughter, Elizabeth Starr. Donations may be made at www.justpeople.org or mailed to PO Box 930037, Norcross, GA 30093.
