Joanne Walker Steele

Joanne (Walker) Evans-Steele, lovingly known to family and friends, passed away on January 6, 2026, at the age of 70. She was born on March 1, 1955, and lived a life rooted in love, strength, and devotion to her family.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mary Walker; her brothers, Charles and William Walker; her first and second husbands, David Evans, Sr. and Albert Steele; her son, Rayvaughn Steele; and her cherished best friend, Nelson McGinnis.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Latrisha Evans and David Evans, Jr. She is also survived by her brothers: James Walker (Beverly), Raymond Walker, Jr., Ronald Walker (Norma), Joseph Walker, Thomas Walker (Cynthia), Gary Walker, and Terry Walker (Felicia); and her sisters: Linda Tolbert (Charles Haynes), Lois Walker Monroe (William Monroe), and Deborah Walker Evans.

Joanne was a proud and devoted grandmother to Telr, Teona, Diego, Neeah, Tyrese, Dashanique, Tourie, Josh, Eunice, and Isaiah, and a loving great-grandmother. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

She shared a special bond with her very best friend, Fletter Lee-McBroom, and her caregiver, Lulu Scott, whose care and compassion were deeply appreciated.

A celebration of Joanne's life will be held on Thursday, January 15th 2026, at noon , and visitation 1 hour prior at Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Services, with Pastor Richard Jones officiating.

Joanne will be remembered for her resilience, her love for family, and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her.
