Joanne Sunseri Obituary
Surrounded in love, Joanne J. Sunseri, 92, died Sunday, April 20, 2025, with her three surviving children, Janice (Lindel), Louis (Connie) and Sofia (Rick) by her side. Preceded in death by her children Debra, James, and Cynthia. Survived by nine grandchildren, Tara (Ty), Limiel (Karene), Alex (Tobi), Zuri, Lauren, Sophia, Julia, Lilliana, Gianna; and seven great- grandchildren Francis, Cassius, Limiel Jr., Z'niah, Quincy, Giannina, Giovanni; and generations of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who became family.
Born the youngest of 10 to Michelino and Margherita Sunseri, Joanne was a beautiful surprise to her parents, as they were only expecting the birth of Janet. Joanne grew up extremely close to her twin Janet, so the family finds peace in knowing they are reunited.
An ambitious young woman, Joanne graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology and became a legal stenographer. She soon married and moved to Hawaii, where her husband was stationed, and they had their first child. They returned to Pittsburgh, where she was a founding member of the former Law Wives Club of Duquesne University Law School. She subsequently gave birth to five more children.
The glue that held many lives together, Joanne was a true matriarch, considering that her greatest accomplishment. Nothing could stop her from being present in her children's lives, no matter the distance. She traveled throughout the U.S., the British Virgin Islands, and Amsterdam to name a few places. A true testament to the profound love she created is the family she nurtured despite the geographical strains. This love is sustained through her immeasurable bond with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She lived a beautiful and full life, readily sharing an abundance of Italian goodness with whomever came to her door. With Joanne, each day was a celebration, filled with good food and laughter.
Witty, loving and absolutely dressed to the hilt with hair impeccably styled, Joanne left an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to be in her presence.
In addition to her parents and sister Janet, Joanne was preceded in death by her siblings, Salvatore, Marie, Yolanda, Irene, Marguerite, Alma, Albert and Frank, to whom she also was very close and with whom she lived for a short time.
Join us in celebrating Joanne. Visitation 2 p.m.– 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.– 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mt. Royal Blvd, Glenshaw, PA 15116 (412-486-4546). Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at St. Jude Parish – St. Raphael Church, 1106 Chislett St., Pittsburgh, PA 15206, followed by procession to Christ the Redeemer Cemetery, where our beloved mom, grandmother, aunt and friend will be laid to eternal rest.

I am so very sorry for your loss of Joanne. The obituary was so amazing and so very true about her. She was so loving and generous to everyone that knew her, and her door was always open and never expected anything in return. She will be missed by so many family and friends.
