Joao M. Macedo, 66, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 5, 2025. He was the husband of Marianna (Lessa) Macedo.
Born in Brava, Cabo Verde, son of Jaime Clarimundo and the late Julia (Monteiro) Dalomba, he moved to the United States in the 1980s and lived most of his life in New Bedford.
Joao was a dedicated and hard worker at Titleist, and devoted 40 years to the company that he loved. He was a devoted husband who loved and cared for his wife over the last 40 years. He was also an incredible father, who helped raise their daughter, who he shared an extremely close bond with. His grandchildren were his absolute pride and joy. He enjoyed going on cruises, fishing and playing cards at the Bisca Tournament Club.
Joao served proudly in the Cape Verdean Military.
Survivors include his wife, Marianna; his daughter Jessica Macedo Andrade and her husband Manuel of Brockton; his father Jaime Clarimundo and his wife Madalena; his grandchildren, Mason Manuel Andrade and Nathan John Andrade; his siblings, Gabriel, Eugenio, and Maria Julia Macedo, Helene, Patricia, and Jaime "Junior" Clarimundo, Eugenia, Idalina, Arlete, Maria Zinha, Ilsa, and Cidalia Dalomba; his former stepmother, Maria Vasconcelos; 8 loving sisters-in-law; one loving brother-in law; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
He is predeceased by his mother, Julia Dalomba and stepfather Daniel Dalomba; his brother Francisco; his stepfather Joao Baptista Macedo.
Joao's Funeral will be held Friday, January 10, 2025 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford followed by his Funeral Mass at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church and burial in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4-8 PM.
