Jocyle A. Nolde

Jocyle Anne Nolde, 93, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria, Illinois.
She was born on January 29, 1930, in Saint Petersburg, Florida to Lester and Ardath Wilson. After graduating from Saint Petersburg High School, she attended Mary Washington College in Virginia where she studied Latin, German, and Russian. After graduating from college in 1951, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the United States government as a Russian translator. An office romance with Gilbert Nolde resulted in their marriage on February 28, 1953, in the historic Lincoln Chapel at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Together Gil and Jo lived in Columbia, MO, Washington, IL, Geneva, Switzerland, and Peoria, IL as they raised four daughters: Kendra, Susan, Judy, and Mindy. Jo had enormous strength, wit, courage, knowledge, wisdom, faith, and love of her family. While she had Alzheimer's for seven years, her soul and spirit always shined. She was far ahead of her time in areas of health and nutrition. On her own, she explored her interests in Buddhism through books and CD's, while holding onto her Christian faith. She was an avid oil painter, and all of her daughters have her paintings in their homes. She loved dogs and their companionship. She was a member of the Rebekah Circle at Salem Lutheran Church. The family is grateful for the care she received from the Lavendar Lane team, Compassus Hospice, and Lutheran Hillside Village.
Jocyle was preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years, Gilbert Nolde, and her brother, Marvin Wilson.
She is survived by her four daughters: Kendra (Jeff Lindgren), Susan (Jeffrey Goldberg), Judy (Ken Smith), and Mindy (John Knudsen); twelve grandchildren: Eric Lindgren, Jenny Goldberg, Matthew (Kookai) Goldberg, Sammi (Anshum Garg) Goldberg, Jacob Moore, Kaitlyn Moore, Sara Knudsen, Emily (Ray Gesiakowski) Smith, Ethan (Jessica) Smith, Allison Knudsen, Ben Knudsen, and Emma Knudsen; and five great-grandchildren: Austin Goldberg, Jackson Goldberg, Maya Jo Garg, Adrian Smith, and Vivian Smith.
A memorial celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria with a visitation an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, TAPS No-Kill Animal Shelter, or Alzheimer's Association: Illinois Chapter.
