Reverend Joe W. Beal, age 67 of Paducah, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, 2:38 a.m. at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center of Paducah.
Joe was born May 6,1955 to Joe and Sudie Mae (Carver) Beal, in Lexington, TN. He attended local schools, graduating from Lexington High School in 1973. Growing up, he worked in cotton, corn, and hay fields. He attended Jackson State Community College and The University of Memphis, graduating in 1977 with a B.S. Degree in Marketing and Business Education. He taught Marketing at Dyersburg High School before enrolling at The Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA; graduating in 1984 with a Masters of Divinity Degree.
As a seminary student, Joe pastored in the North Georgia Conference 3 years, serving churches in Alpharetta and Duluth, Georgia. After graduating from ITC, he returned to the Memphis Annual Conference, serving faithfully from 1984 - 2016. He served 18 years on the McCabe-Greer-Wesley charge in Martin, Kenton, and Sharon, TN. While in Martin, he served as President of the Martin-Weakley County NAACP, member of the Weakley County Election Commission, and a member of the Weakley County Each One Reach One Reading Program Committee. He stood with and supported many young men and women as they matriculated through the criminal justice system and was considered a Friend of the Court. After faithfully serving in Martin, Joe moved to Paducah, KY serving 7 years at Northside United Methodist Church and 7 years at Broadway United Methodist Church. Joe loved the communities he served and was loved by them.
On December 5, 1987, Joe married the love of his life, Marie (Evie) Pierre. To this union two children were born: Christopher Walter and Bethany Grace. He was a loving, caring, and devoted husband and father.
On August 24, 2022, Joe died peacefully at Lourdes Hospice Care in Paducah. Preceding him in death are his parents, Joe & Sudie Mae Beal; sisters Jo Ann Beal & Genett Beal, and brother Nathaniel Beal. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Marie Beal; his son, Christopher Beal; daughter Bethany Beal; sisters: Ruby (Larry) Jackson, of Chicago, IL, Clara Mae Beal of Paducah, KY and Theresia Parker of Jackson, TN; brothers Albert Johnson of Chicago, IL and Rev. Larry (Bobbie) Beal of Lexington, TN. aunts: Arnell Campbell of Lexington, TN and Katherine Carver of Jamaica, Queens, NY; godchildren: Zaren & Zani Saddler of Clemmons, NC and Stephen Stone of Houston, TX; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 3, 2022, 12 noon at Broadway United Methodist Church in Paducah with Rev. Michael Ripski officiating.
Friends may call on Friday, September 2, 2022, at the church from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
Burial will follow on Sunday, September 4, 2022, 12:00 noon at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lexington, TN.
