Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Joe Dale Bryan went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 10, 2024. Joe Dale was born in Lubbock, Texas to H.B. and Bobbye Bryan on February 27, 1936. He was a proud alumnus of Lubbock High School, Class of 1954, and furthered his education at Texas Technological College, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, followed by a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas. His career saw him rise to the position of Senior Vice President in the Trust Department at First National Bank of Lubbock.
Joe Dale married his bride, Joan Bethany on January 25, 1958, in the Bowman Chapel of First Methodist Church. They were happily married 63 years until Joan's passing in 2021. Their lifelong union was blessed with three beautiful daughters, Susan LaFreniere (Larry), Linda Bryan, and Judy Marshall (Jack), all of Lubbock. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, Amanda, Crystal, Laura, Dana, John, Joseph, David, Chance, and Cole, and a great-grandfather to seven.
A walking encyclopedia of Lubbock's history, Joe Dale lived through significant milestones and events that shaped the city. From attending high school alongside Buddy Holly to aiding in the recovery efforts after the 1970 Tornado, he was an eyewitness to 88 years of Lubbock's 115-year-old story. He was a continual supporter of the Texas Tech Red Raiders and later served as the treasurer for the Texas Tech Alumni Association. A devoted member of St. Luke's Methodist Church, Joe Dale also contributed his expertise to the church finance committee.
A celebration of the life of Joe Dale Bryan will be held Thursday, June 13, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Methodist Church (Central Campus) with Matt Wolfington officiating. Friends and family may pay their respects during the viewing from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at Sanders Funeral Home. Those left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Bryan; his parents H.B. and Bobbye Bryan; and his brother, Jim Bob Bryan.
