Joe Kevin Byrd, age 65, was born on May 9, 1960, in Meridian, Mississippi, and passed away on December 3, 2025.

Joe was the son of the late Billie Joe Byrd and Geraldine Williams Byrd. He lived life with an open heart and an easy smile, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Kevin loved being on the water and could often be found enjoying jet skiing and other water activities. He also had a deep love for travel, both domestic and international. He enjoyed experiencing new places and cultures, with travels that included destinations such as Amsterdam and France. Some of his most cherished memories were made while traveling with his family—especially when he took his father and stepmother on cruises and international trips, creating lasting moments filled with joy, laughter, and togetherness.

Joe had a giving spirit and would give his last to help someone else, sometimes even when others took advantage of his kindness. That generosity was simply who he was.

He shared a very special bond with his stepmother, Gwendolyn, whom he loved and treated not as a stepmother, but as his true mother.

Joe was known for his loving nature, kind heart, and great sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh—even on their hardest days—and his laughter was contagious. He truly brought light to those closest to him.

A local entrepreneur, Joe was the owner of The Hoedown, a bar located near the old railroad tracks in Hattiesburg. It was a lively, swinging place that college students loved to gather. Every night was Ladies’ Night when Kevin opened the doors, and the bar was always packed—a testament to his welcoming spirit and larger-than-life personality.

Joe had a deep love for animals, especially cats and dogs. He also had a green thumb, took pride in gardening, and was known to be a good cook. He was truly one of a kind.

Joe Kevin Byrd will be remembered fondly by his stepmother, Gwendolyn, and by those whose lives he touched through his generosity, laughter, and unforgettable presence.

Funeral services will be held privately.
