Kayla Cowan, 34, a resident of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away on February 10, 2026, in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Kayla was born on March 13, 1991, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, to Ralph Willis and Gloria Walker. She was a bright and determined woman whose life reflected strength, compassion, and love for others. Kayla attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where she earned her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing.
Kayla proudly devoted her professional life to caring for others. She served as an Emergency Room Nurse at Keesler Air Force Base and later worked at Diversicare of Moss Point, where she held the role of Director of Clinical Education (DCE). Kayla was passionate about healthcare and took pride in making a difference in the lives of those she served.
Outside of work, Kayla was full of creativity and joy. She loved traveling the world, working with makeup, and beautifying those around her. She also enjoyed creating personalized items and party favors, always finding ways to make others feel special. Kayla had a true servant’s heart and thoroughly enjoyed taking care of people. Above all else, Kayla cherished her children—they were her entire world.
Kayla was united in holy matrimony to Keith Cowan on September 25, 2025.
Kayla was preceded in death by her uncle, Lionell Needham; her uncle, Victor Walker; her cousin, Alisha Walker; and her grandfather, James Walker.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, Keith Cowan; her mother, Gloria Walker, her brother, Ralph Willis, Jr.; her sister, Latoya Walker; her four beloved children, Kamariua McCon, Braylon Fountain, Im’re Nelson, and Kovi Cowan; a devoted cousin/sister/friend, Shantereas “Angel” Walker; a devoted friend/sister/coworker, Jamie Pinkney; a devoted father, Jerry McGowan; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 11:00 am, at New Bethel Apostolic Assembly in Moss Point. Visitation will start at 10:00 am.
