Joseph “Joe” Chavez passed peacefully from this life on February 3, 2026, at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He was 65 years old. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Newcomer East Metro Chapel, 190 Potomac Street, Aurora, Colorado 80011.

Joe was born on December 6, 1960, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to John and Virginia Chavez. At a young age, his family moved to Denver, where Joe graduated from East High School. He also enjoyed sharing stories about his time at Bishop Machebeuf High School and the memories he made there.

Joe married his first wife, Linda Chavez, and together they built a life and raised their children in the same Denver neighborhood where he grew up. Linda’s passing in 2012 was a profound loss. In the years that followed, Joe remained devoted to his children and family.

Later in life, Joe married Bobbie Blanton. They were partners in life, supporting one another and the family they loved.

Joe dedicated 30 years of service to the City of Aurora Stormwater Division, where he worked as a senior maintenance technician and built many lasting friendships along the way.

He had a lifelong love of cars, motorcycles, watches, guns, golfing, the number 42, and the Denver Broncos, passions that sparked countless conversations. He also had a passion for learning and collecting. He adored his dog, Chuckie, who was always by his side and ready for a trip to Bass Pro Shop to stock up on beef jerky to share.

Joe is survived by his wife, Bobbie Blanton; his sons Adrian Montenegro, Donovan Chavez and his wife, Kacie Kondrotis, and Raymond Chavez; his daughter Ivana Chavez and her husband, Juan De Paz; and his stepdaughter Genevieve Blanton, all of whom will carry forward his memory and legacy.

He is also survived by his sister, Linda Gomez, and her husband, Richard Gomez; his brother, David Chavez; his nieces and nephews, Antonio, Teresa and her husband Glen, Daniel and his wife Jolene, John and his wife Regina, Cameron, Kendra, Diego, and Ezabela; his great-nieces and nephews Lauren, Ethan, Roman, Abigale, Olivia; and grand children Isabella, and Joaquin. Other family members include Wendell, Lena, Rebecca, Francisco, and numerous aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia Chavez, and his first wife, Linda Chavez.

Joe will be remembered for his loyalty, his humor, and his deep love for his family.
