Joe Allen Coe, age 64, of Hillsdale, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in Coldwater, Michigan. He was born October 20, 1960, in Coldwater, to Robert and Joan (Clinansmith) Coe. Joe married Brenda Sheerer on June 13, 1981, and she survives.
After graduating from Jonesville High School in 1978, Joe began his career working as a dairy farmer for many years. In 1986, Joe and Brenda attended Bible college and joined New Tribes Mission where they served as missionaries in Venezuela until 2003. Upon returning from mission work, Joe continued to serve the Lord in youth ministries for 12 years. Joe was currently employed at Walmart Distribution Center in Coldwater. He attended Cambria Baptist Church, and by living his faith in action, Joe never knew a stranger. Joe was an avid outdoorsman who found peace in time spent hunting, fishing, and working on the farm. His family was his pride and joy, especially the time he shared with his grandchildren who affectionately called him "Papa".
In addition to his wife of 44 years, Brenda Coe, Joe is survived by four children, Jozlynn (Chad) Hamilton of Fairfield, Iowa, Nate (Brianne) Coe of Hillsdale, Joseph (Rebecca) Coe of Camden, and Kerry (Jenna) McElroy of Bluffton, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Griffin, Malachi, Egan, Elijah, Aubrey, Palmer, Presley, and Azariah; his mother, Joan Ladd of Hillsdale; his father, Robert (Beverly) Coe of Hillsdale; two sisters, Robin (Nick) Orzechowski of Sylvania, Ohio, and Angie (Scott) Manifold of Jonesville; and his father-in-law, George Sheerer of Jonesville.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Dolores Sheerer.
A celebration of life for Joe Coe will be held Friday, September 12, 2025, at 3:00 PM, at Cambria Baptist Church with Pastor David Locke officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service at the church. Arrangements have been made under the guidance of VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
