Joe DeLaCerda Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnes Brothers Funeral Home on Sep. 10, 2025.
Joe "Pepe" DeLaCerda, 77, of Galveston TX, passed away peacefully Sunday July 20, 2025, in Galveston, a place he dearly loved. Born May 22, 1948, in Santa Rosa, TX. Pepe lived a life marked by steadfast faith, generosity of spirit, and a unique gift for finding light in even the darkest moments. Pepe proudly served his country in the US Army, where his adventurous spirit led him into demolition work. Afterward, he made his mark on Galveston Island, working in hauling and demolition-a trade through which he helped shape the community he called home. He was never happier than when "out on the island," or leaning under the hood of a hot rod or straddling a motorcycle. His month on tour with Jimmy Swaggart was one of his fondest memories, made sweeter by his unwavering trust in the Lord. Pepe's love for people was evident to all who had the pleasure of meeting him. He had an unforgettable ability to compliment and lift those around him, no matter their struggles. "Live for today and trust Jesus with tomorrow" was his guiding philosophy, and his faith never wavered. Pepe always had a way of lightening the heaviest burdens and was never too busy to lend a helping hand. He is survived by his loving partner, Shirley, and his children David, Lorenzo "Joey,", and Kieri Andrews, his grand and great grandchildren, sister, Gloria, and brother, Manuel "Dillon," as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parent's, Eloisa and Lorenzo, a son, Mark Manka, 3 grandchildren, Christian, Caroline, and Alexis, brothers Lorenzo and Frank. A visitation will be held Thursday, August 7, 2025, 5pm-8pm at Carnes Brothers, 1201 23rd St. Galveston, TX. Graveside services are 9:30am Friday, August 8, 2025, at Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. Pepe leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and community- a true reminder that "Trucks Will Make You Bucks!
