Joe V. Garcia, Jr. was born on October 11, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas to Joe and Elvira Garcia. He went to be with the Lord on July 4, 2025.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Esther R Garcia, by his parents Joe S. Garcia and Elvira V. Garcia and by his great-granddaughter Luna Esther Evangeline.
Joe is survived by his siblings Louie (Oralia) Garcia, Mary Jane Nanes, Richard (Rosa) Garcia and Carolyn Garcia; his children Joe III (Maria G) Garcia, Debbie (Edward) Millman, Christina (Alonzo) Garcia, and Carlos (Kim) Garcia; his grandchildren Joe IV (Vicky), James (Melanie), Marisa (Bryan), Matthew (Syafiqah), Diego, Araceli, Santiago, Ian, Evangaline, and Alvaro; his great-grandchildren Lexus, Elijah, Alex (Alexandra), Isabel and Mila; his great-great-grandchildren Aryani and Zavian and numerous nephews and nieces.
Joe was a long time and integral employee of the South Texas Blood and Tissue Bank until he retired in 2005. He started with Southwest Blood Services in 1962 in San Antonio, moved to Laredo, Texas to run its operations for a few years, returned to San Antonio and was one of the original employees of the new South Texas Regional Blood and Tissue Bank in 1974. He was a fixture at the blood bank and received numerous awards throughout his career.
Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed making wine, creating tile mosaics, painting, going to flea markets, trips to Las Vegas, and Cabo San Lucas (even getting stuck in a hurricane) with his beloved wife Esther.
