Joe “Jose” Martin Marquez, 84, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 in Ocean Springs.

Jose was born in Fort Worth, TX on September 14, 1939. He was a graduate of Fort Lupton High School Class of 1959 and a 1969 graduate of Texas Christian University where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and Spanish. Jose also completed his Community Organization Training from I.A.F. Chicago, IL by Saul Alinsky in 1970. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army and served as Director of the Experiential Learning, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX from 1973 to 1975. Jose was an avid deer and wild hog hunter and a bookworm who enjoyed reading. He was a restauranteur, businessman, chef and owner of Jose’s of Nashville and Taqueria. Jose also served as a private chef for many country music celebrities and actors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin P. and Ruth Garcia Marquez; and his daughters, Valerie Escobido and Catherine Marquez. 

Jose’s survivors include his children, Demetrio L. Marquez of Fort Worth, TX, Vincent M. Marquez of Denver, CO, Dominic M. Marquez of Fort Worth, TX, Andrea R. Duff of Fort Worth, TX and Lyrica M. Marquez of Dallas, TX; 15 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until service time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
