Joe Bill Mahan, 93, of Theodosia, MO passed away October 29, 2024 at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, MO. Always known as "Bill", he was born November 24, 1930 on Shilo Ridge in Ozark County to parents Cally and Myrtle (Brown) Mahan.
Bill attended all eight years of school at Shilo school house. He was married to Juanita Rhodes on July 8, 1950. They were married 74 years. Bill was a farmer all his life, except when there was a drought in the early 1950's. At that time Bill and Juanita went to Kansas City where he worked at Armour & Company for a short time. They returned back to their farm where they built a dairy barn and sold grade A milk for years and had beef cattle too. His grandpa had given him a pig when he was a small boy, then a pet female pig. Bill was in the hog business and always had pigs for sale until it got to where there was no profit to be made. He made the decision to get out of the hog business and felt like he was too old to milk as well, but he still loved his black angus cows.
Bill was a Christian. He confessed and accepted the Lord Jesus as his savior. He was loved dearly by all his family. He was a wonderful husband and father. Bill was the only son and youngest in the family. We will always love and cherish our memories of him!
Bill leaves behind his wife, Juanita Mahan and their two children David Mahan and wife Robin, Yvette Shoemaker and husband Mike; grandchildren Daniel Mahan, Telea Mahan (Chad Crossland), Abby Mahan, Andrew Adams, Christopher Adams and wife Malissa; great grandchildren Heath Dale and wife Shelby, Tatum Mahan, Michael and Cash James; one great-great grandchild Haden Dale. Other survivors include three wonderful nephews Harold Clayton, Jimmy Hillhouse, Roger Hillhouse; and many close relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Beaulah Mashburn, Alene Clayton and Jean Hillhouse.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2024 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon from 1p.m. to service time. Burial will be in the Hicks Cemetery north of Theodosia. Arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
