Joe Messinger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home on Nov. 20, 2025.
Joe Ann Messinger, a life-long resident of the Tri-State area, our beloved Mom, Grammie, Sister, Aunt and Friend, entered the gates of heaven on Monday November 17th, 2025.

She passed peacefully with her daughter Julie by her side. Family and friends kept vigil with Mom sharing love, laughter and memories. Although Mom was in comfort care during this time she let us know she could hear everyone by squeezing our hands and we are comforted knowing Mom had awareness of this before she passed. Mom is reunited with her parents Julie "JuJu" and Earl "Poppy" Corey, Jr., husband Robert Messinger, brother Earl "Sonny" Corey III, brother-in-law Jack Heckman, and nephews Craig Caliciotti and Scott Corey.

Mom's priority throughout her life was family - giving to her children while she could experience their enjoyment, showering endless love on her grandchildren, enjoying family vacations at the Jersey Shore, Ocean City Maryland, Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks, holiday dinners, special celebrations and so much more. Mom loved cruising and gambling with her sister Roberta "Bootsie" Heckman and close friend Donna Hughson, among others. There wasn't a slot machine or scratcher she could pass up! She loved going out to dinner and had a favorite saying, "most eat to live and I live to eat" - she savored every mouthful, leading to hours at the dinner table waiting for her to finish! Her wit was widely known with many referring to her as "sassy" and a "spit fire". She had beautiful handwriting and a way with words and would frequently put pen to paper to express her feelings. She was an ardent supporter of President Trump and Fox News was her go to channel.

Mom's career was spent as a server in many local restaurants, dazzling regular and new customers alike with her humor. She enjoyed meeting people and getting to know them but jumped at the opportunity to step away from that to babysit her grandson, Anthony Strasser. They shared a special bond from this time spent together that will forever endure.

Mom was determined to attend her granddaughter Morgan's October 18th wedding and that she did, staying through almost the entire reception! In fact, the picture being shared of Mom shows her joy during Morgan and Chris' ceremony.

Mom is survived by her children daughter Julie (Jack) Strasser of Glen Spey, NY and sons Allen Quick of Port Jervis, NY and Brett (Coleen) Quick of Chesapeake, VA; her grandchildren Morgan (Chris) Rudinski, Anthony Strasser, Brandon, Rachel and Ayden Quick; great-grandchildren Kayden and Liliana Quick; her sister Roberta "Bootsie" Heckman; nieces and nephews Jodi Caliciotti, John (Barbara) Heckman, Joe (Crissy) Heckman, Chuck and Penny Corey and Steven (Kelly) Quick; great nieces and nephews Corey Caliciotti, Cassandra (Nick) Connell, Connor Caliciotti, and Megan, Carter, Nathan and Grant Heckman; close friends Donna Hughson and Shirley Storms; and beloved pets Pixie and Bingo.

As a family we are grateful to the entire Care Team at Delaware Valley Skilled Nursing Facility; Mom was cared for and cared about - hugs, encouraging words, her special spot in bingo and also a spot by the window to enjoy the sunshine - meant so much to her and to us. The 3rd Floor Care Team at Bon Secours worked tirelessly to make a difficult and scary time for Mom and her family less so and we are thankful for that.

Mom loved warm weather and sunshine and in honor of that her graveside memorial and celebration of life will take place in the Spring of 2026.

In lieu of flowers or any other donation honoring Mom, we know she would be very appreciative of a donation to your local humane society or animal shelter.
