Richard Messinger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Frazer Cremations & Funerals - South Lyon on Dec. 5, 2025.
Richard F. Messinger January 5, 1943 – December 2, 2025
Son of the late George Messinger and Catherine Comment. Beloved husband of Jean Messinger, survived by the following children: Rebecca Charbeneau (the late Kevin), Anita LaVigne (Darryl), Travis Messinger (Kim), Robert Budzeika, Jr., Sheila Hall-Gabriel (Jack) and the following grandchildren: the late Robert Charbeneau, Kevin Charbeneau Jr., Katelyn Pinner (Brendan), Sydney Spencer, Alicia Gabriel, Cayleigh Messinger, Gavin Messinger, and the following great-grandchildren: Michael Lemley and Nicholas Charbeneau. Also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Paul Messinger (Cathy), Claude Messinger, the late George Messinger (Pam), Tom Messinger (MJ), Mary Messinger (Don), Ann Messinger, the late Mark Messinger and many nephews and nieces. Richard dedicated his life to the service of others. He was a proud Navy veteran and after his military service, he chose a career of protecting others during several years in law enforcement with the Wayne County Sheriff Department, Houston Police Department, and a Court Security Officer for the U.S. Marshals Service, earning the respect of colleagues across every chapter of his tenure. His professionalism, courage, and unwavering integrity left an enduring mark on all who served beside him. Outside of his professional success, Richard was best known for the roles he cherished most: husband, father, and grandfather. He adored his family – his greatest pride – and filled every gathering with warmth, encouragement and the playful humor that became his signature. His one-liners were legendary, his timing impeccable, and his jokes guaranteed to draw smiles. Richard was also a terrific poker player, the kind who could read a room as easily as a hand of cards. Whether at a family table or a friendly weekend game, he played with skill, patience, and just enough mischief to keep everyone guessing. Those who knew him will remember the twinkle in his eye when he won – and the even bigger grin when he bluffed his way there. Richard made a lasting impact on every person he encountered, known for his toughness, charisma, and outgoing personality. He was a proud veteran, respected first responder, wonderful husband, amazing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Loved Today, Tomorrow, and Always
