Trujillo Family Funeral HomeJoe “Travieso” Montoya was born on December 6, 1983, and was tragically taken from us on July 5, 2025. His journey through life was not always easy, but he met each day with strength, heart, and a desire to be better for those he loved most. He had a bold spirit, a sharp sense of humor, and a deep love for his family that never wavered.
He was a talented barber, a passionate artist, and a true music lover. His creativity showed in every haircut, every drawing, and every beat that filled the room when he was around. His artistic soul was matched only by the love he gave so freely to those close to him.
Joe is survived by his cherished children, Analicia (Amaris), Estevan, and Neveah Montoya, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind his sister, Marlena Riggs (Steve), his nieces, Aliana and Raelei Riggs, his goddaughter, Christina Montoya, and the mother of Analicia and Estevan, Samantha Montoya – all of whom he loved deeply and who stood by him with unwavering support.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Montoya-Lucero, and his father, Benny Montoya; his godparents, George Maestas and Yolanda Montoya; his uncles, Chris Montoya and Tracy Rodriguez; and his two older cousins, Shuvonne Wickard-Lucero and Tommy Montoya.
Known affectionately as “Travieso,” Joe will be remembered for his vibrant personality, his loyalty, and the love he gave so freely to his family and friends. Though his time with us was far too short, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, beginning at 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Trujillo Family Funeral Home Chapel in Albuquerque, NM. A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 9:00 am at St. Ann's Parish in Santa Fe, NM.
Joe's ashes will be laid to rest in Galisteo, NM, where he can remain close to his children. A celebration of his life will follow the rosary and mass at the Galisteo Center in Galisteo, NM, where family and friends are welcome to gather, share memories, and honor the life of a man who meant so much to so many.
May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by love.
