Joe Owen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Corley Funeral Home - Corsicana on Feb. 8, 2026.
Joe Wayne Owen, known affectionately as Joe to all who were privileged to know him, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, in Corsicana, Texas. Born on September 26, 1936, in Pearsonville, Texas, Joe's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, a passion for learning, and a generosity of spirit that touched the lives of many.

A master floor layer by trade, Joe's skilled hands and keen eye for detail were only a small part of his legacy. His work ethic and involvement in various associations throughout his career spoke volumes about his dedication to his craft and his desire to uplift those within his professional community.

Joe's life was a testament to the power of love and the importance of family. Although he was preceded in death by his brothers Jeff, Cecil, and Eddy Owen; his sister Iva Nell Ramey; his mother Alyene Jewel Owen (Prater); his grandson Justin Woodall; and his nephews Darrell and Dayne Owen, he leaves behind a remarkable family. His daughters, Sharon (Joe) Goodin and Teresa (Billy) O'Daniel, and his sons, Phillip (Suzy) Owen and Clinton Owen, alongside his stepdaughter Kawana Cox, will carry forward the strength and compassion he modeled throughout his years. Joe's legacy also lives on through his three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply.

Joe was a man of many interests and talents. He raised his brothers with a nurturing spirit that would define his role as a family man for the rest of his life. His passion for gardening allowed him to nurture life in another form, carefully tending to his plants with the same patience and care he offered to his loved ones. An avid reader and a lifetime learner, Joe's thirst for knowledge was insatiable, and he firmly believed in the power of education to transform lives.

His love for traveling took him from the warm climates of Phoenix, Arizona, where he lived for 13 years, to the vibrant city life of Sacramento, California, for three years. He then enjoyed the natural beauty of Olympia, Washington, before finally settling in Richland, Texas, where he found a community and a home.

Joe Owen was the epitome of a loving, wise, and handy individual. His ability to fix anything that was broken extended beyond the physical; he was often the one to mend hearts and bridge gaps within his family and community. His wisdom was sought after by many, and his loving nature made him a cornerstone in the lives of those who knew him.

As we bid farewell to Joe, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and kindness. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and his presence will be profoundly missed. Joe's story is not one of an end but a lasting legacy of the love he shared and the lives he touched. He will be remembered not just for the life he lived but for the love he gave freely and the wisdom he imparted. Rest in peace, Joe Owen, a true patriarch, mentor, and friend.
