Joe Flanigan Patrick, 49, of Sarcoxie, Missouri passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, in the comfort of his own home.
Joe was born on Friday, February 14, 1975, in Joplin, Missouri to the union of Rod and Judy (Coyle) Patrick.
As a young boy, he was able to attend several OU football games, thanks to his grandmother "Granny" Bass. In fact, they made several trips to the Orange Bowl which was a great thrill for someone of his age.
Joe was given his first Hereford Heifer by his Granny when he was about six years old. That put an alter of his compassion for horses, which was a difficult choice. It was cattle all the way until his health would not allow him to participate as much in cattle shows a couple of years ago. But that didn't stop the love and excitement for Hereford cattle and his pursuit. Joe was fortunate to have several friends that were more than glad to assist Joe, with showing and all that goes with that process. He was always right there coaching them on. He had opportunities to sell some of his show heifers in various sales, including American Royal Hereford Sale & 417's Finest Hereford Female Sale, where one of his fall pairs was selected to lead the sale, due to her quality, Joe was very proud. In Joe's youth, he was involved in sports, "his mother can still hear Steve Chandler say, "You got this little buddy," 4-H and FFA where he received several awards. After graduation from Sarcoxie High School, he was offered a full scholarship to attend NEO where he received his Associate Degree. Joe was on the livestock judging team under the direction of Jary Douglas. Not only did Joe spend two years living in Holstein Hall and various other places, he gained the respect and long-time friendships of the team. Joe was self-appointed leader but probably part-time instigator of fun. Then Joe moved on to Oklahoma State University where he received a livestock judging scholarship and Collegiate horse judging. Those teams traveled all over of which Joe was quite successful. The friends Joe made at OSU were lifelong and the experience has left lots of stories. In 1995 Joe's heifer JR 2Z Madonna C150 was awarded Overall Champion Female at the National Western Stock Show, in Denver. Joe's Mom purchased her for Joe at Ned and Jan Ward's annual sale in Montana. Many thanks to Greg and Gail Alsup for their help and excellent job they did while Joe was attending college. OSU turned him into a loyal OSU fan. After college Joe returned to Sarcoxie due to health issues and began his pursuit to continue building the best herd that he possibly could. Along with his Dad, Mom and Johnny Hankins they traveled to Oklahoma, Iowa, Kansas, Texas and Missouri to purchase show heifers to again start and manage Patrick Cattle Company. Now Joe got real serious about raising the best Hereford's he could. Joe's bad health continued, amputations and broken leg, just to name a few, only slowed Joe down. He continued to raise quality cattle and produce the very best show cattle. Until his death, Joe managed Patrick Cattle Company's Farm and maintain his growing herd. Joe will be sorely missed by his best friend and helper, his dog, Sonny.
Joe is survived by his parents, Judy Coyle Patrick, Sarcoxie, Missouri of the home, Rod Patrick of Weatherford, Texas; and Johnny Hankins, partner and companion of Judy Patrick also of Sarcoxie, Missouri; long time best friends "Moms", Sharon Lawyer and Sandy Rogers; as well as a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Coy and Hazel Bass and George and Minnie Lee Patrick.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastors Dan Wermuth and Reggie Powers officiating.
