Long time Oxford businessman, Joe Phipps, passed away September 12, 2025 in Venice, Florida.Joe and his family, moved to Oxford in the late 1950's, when they started up the Oxford IGA Foodliner on South Washington Street. His family sold the business in 1966, and Joe moved into the real estate and insurance business. Partnering with Bob King, they started up the King-Phipps Agency on South Lapeer Road. While operating this successful business, Joe still had the time to play a great many rounds of golf at Oxford Hills and Indianwood Golf and Country Club, where he was a long time member of both clubs. In 1999, Joe and his wife Carol, retired to the golf course community of Pelican Sound Golf & River Club in Estero, Florida, where they were original founding members. Joe felt quite honored, when he would go into the club house at the end of a round to buy a refreshment; they would ask for his account number, and he would say 8.Joe made many wonderful memories with his family and friends on the golf links; this included several holes-in-one, shooting his age and under many times; but what he was most endeared with was winning the member-guest championship at the age of 82, while playing with his son at Pelican Sound.Joe is survived by his sister Joyce McIsaac, of Oxford; son Tom Phipps (Laurie) of Littleton, Colorado; daughter Pam Phipps (Debbie) of Port Charlotte, Florida; step-daughter Robin Fredericksen of Bonita Springs, Florida; and step son Greg Fredericksen (Karen) of Torch Lake, Michigan. Three grandchildren, Emily, Brian, and Jackie Phipps of Colorado; two step grandchildren Lauren and Elyse; and most importantly too him four loving great-grandsons Ronan, Harris, Cassian and Oscar. He was preceded in death, by his daughter Joy Katherine. In the early-summer of 2026, a small family memorial service will be held at Oxford's Ridgelawn Cemetery, when Joe and his wife Carol's remains will be interred in the Phipps family Memorial Garden.
