Joe Sarti Obituary

Published by CLOSED-Crosby-N. Gray & Co. Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Dec. 22, 2018.
Joe "Beppe" Sarti was born in Massarosa, Italy, on September 14, 1934 to Ugo and Brigida Sarti. He passed peacefully after a lengthy illness on December 22, 2018 at the age of 84. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 wonderful years, Mara Marchetti Sarti. He is also survived by his son Rob (Catherine), his son John (Cathy), his grandson JR, his brother in Lido di Camaiore, Italy, Fernando (Grazia), his sisters-in-law, Franca Ghiglieri Marchetti and Anna Sarti, his niece Bridget Marchetti Philip (Brian, Sabrina, and Olivia), his niece Diana Marchetti Barrett (John, Samantha, and Maggie), and many beloved nieces and nephews in and around Lucca, Italy. He is preceded in death by his beloved siblings Osvaldo (Julia), Beppina (Antonio), and Alvaro, as well as his brother-in-law, Joe Marchetti. As a young man, Joe served in the Italian Army with the NATO Forces, entertaining his fellow servicemen and the people of Stiava as a trumpeteer. He originally met his wife, Mara, in 1948, as they were elementary school classmates in Stiava, Italy. Joe again connected with Mara at the age of 24 when she travelled back to Italy from the United States. In 1959, Beppe moved to the US and they married at Saints Peter and Paul in North Beach. Together in North Beach, they raised two sons, Rob and John. Then, in 1974, they took a chance and relocated to the small, quiet suburb of San Mateo Park where they became active in St. Catherine's parish. Beppe and his sons did everything "outdoors," going fishing and hunting, and also planting tomatoes in the "orto." Beppe worked at Feiler Brothers which evolved into Marchetti Construction, and there he was a world-class cabinet-finisher. He spent lots of days at Marchetti with fellow Italians at the "shop." Eventually, Beppe inherited two daughters-in-law, Catherine and Cathy Sarti, who were so special to him. One of the biggest highlights of his life was when he became Nonno for the first time to little JR born in 2008. He will forever be missed, especially at family dinners and on fishing trips to Lewiston Lake in Trinity County. There will be a celebration of his life on Friday, December 28th, at 10:00am at St. Catherine's Church in Burlingame. Afterwards, the internment will be at the Italian Cemetery in Colma, followed by a luncheon gathering at Sapore Restaurant on Burlingame Avenue.
