Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stroud Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
Joe Joshua Spaulding Sr., age 55 was a resident of
Angleton, Texas departed this life March 25, 2026 at UTMB Angleton Danbury Hospital. He was born in
Freeport, Texas to Philip and Johnnie Spaulding.
While Joe was born in Freeport, he was reared in Jones Creek. He attended school in Freeport and graduated from Brazosport High School. Upon graduating, Joe worked and gained diverse industry experience. His last employment was for the City of Angleton. There he worked for over 25 years. After a fearful long battle and lingering complications from covid, he retired.
Joe, lovingly known as "Joe Cool" truly lived up to his name. He possessed calm confidence in his abilities and was comfortable in his own skin. He liked to mingle and spend time with family and friends. His hobbies were fishing, cooking, and football (TEXANS).
Joe was a devoted father, a cherished family man, and a loyal friend. He was known for his calm and warm presence. He brought laughter into heavy moments, comfort during hard times, and strength to those who needed it most. His presence had a way of making everything feel a little lighter.
Brittany Spaulding (daughter) and Joe Spaulding Jr., (son) were his pride and joy. The love he poured into them will forever live in their hearts, reminding them that they were always deeply loved. Joe also was a proud grandfather to Anaiya, Elijah, Imani, Iman Conley, Jenasis Spaulding, Ahmi Spaulding, Melayia, Na'mari, Melanie, and Milly. All of which brought him joy immensely. Above all, Joe loved his family. His mother Johnnie; brothers Dave and Curtis; sisters; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins; and all that were special to him.
Joe will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and the way he showed up for the people he loved. He touched many lives and his memory will continue through every story shared, every laugh remembered, and every lesson he left behind.
He is preceded in death by his father Philip Spaulding; sister Shirley Lunford; grandmother Alfredia Daniels; aunts Hazel Lewis and Malinda Stepner; uncles Roland Daniels, George Lewis (Punkin), and Leroy Daniels.
He leaves to cherish his Mother Johnnie Spaulding; brothers Dave Marshal and Curtis Spaulding; sister-in-law Lisa Spaulding; aunts Patricia Lewis, Vickie Lewis, Lillian Gadson, and Linda Daniels; sisters Phyllis Spaulding, Juanita Keller, Kenya Spaulding, and Rocksie Sams.
Joe is survived by his daughter Brittany Spaulding, son Joe Spaulding Jr., Maria Calderon (significant other), grandchildren, special friends Roy Wash and Joyce Wash, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind Estrella Ortiz, Mercedes Calderon, Sierra Romero, and a host of friends.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that God has welcomed Joe home, free from pain and at peace.
The Bible reminds us in 2 Timothy 4:7
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
We hold on these promises that we will see Joe again and his love will forever remain in our hearts.
