Joe Irwin Whitley, 81, of Higdon, AL, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. 

A funeral service to honor Joe’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM ET in the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Brother Larry Williams, Brother Steve Townson, and Brother Chris Townson. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Higdon Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM ET and on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM ET.

Joe was a true family man who cherished his loved ones above all else. He was a devoted member of Sand Mountain United Methodist Church and found joy in watching Alabama football games.

Born on June 1, 1943, to the late Ralph and Hazel Whitley, Joe is preceded in death by his siblings: Junior Whitley, Johnnie Lee Whitley, Glen Whitley, and Kathryn Vance.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Jackie Whitley; daughters LaDonna and Jennifer Whitley; grandchildren Bailey Holcomb, Derek (Maryeah) Alonzo, and Hannah (Miguel) Alonzo; and great-grandchildren Jayden Bell, Aeris Alonzo, Laila Whitley, Sonder Alonzo, Lorenzo Andres, and Nico Whitley. Additionally, he leaves behind a supportive family of siblings, including Carol Sharpton, Douglas Whitley, Calvin (Beth) Whitley, Charles Whitley, Helen (Steve) Townson, Stanley (Lisa) Whitley, Marlene (Michael) Buff; sisters-in-law, Frances Whitley, Rosalyn Whitley, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Joe's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.
