Joe Newman Whitworth (1926-2025), age 98, of Camden, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at home.
Born June 24, 1926, in Driver, Arkansas to Mary Alston and John Wesley Whitworth.

Benton County's last surviving World War II Veteran, Whitworth served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville before moving to Camden in 1955 to become Manager of Lockhart Motor Company and Lockhart Heirs farm. A member of the First United Methodist Church in Camden serving as Lay Leader and Chairman of several committees, including Chairman of the Building Committee for the current sanctuary, and Treasurer of Lakeshore Methodist Assembly. An active member of the community, he served as County Commissioner, President of the Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Bank of Camden Board of Directors. He was a charter member of BPOE #2156, a member of the Memphis Scottish Rite Temple, and a member of Camden Masonic Lodge #179.
An avid golfer who enjoyed trips with his friends; but nothing made him more proud or happier than spending time with his family and cheering for the Tennessee Vols.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 12:00 noon at the First United Methodist Church in Camden, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation in his memory to the First United Methodist Church in Camden.
