Joel Black Obituary

Joel Black

1954 - 2025

Joel L. Black, The Man, The Myth, The Legend, has bid us farewell at the ripe young age of 71 on Saturday, December 13th, 2025 at Essentia Health, St. Mary's in Duluth Minnesota.

A long time native to Grand Rapids and a Man of the people. One would often find him visiting his numerous friends, traveling to watch the stock car races, or going to the fall party he attended every year.

Someone you could always rely on; he would help a friend or get his kids out of a jam at the drop of a hat. No matter the struggle or the distance, he would be there. Well-liked by most people he came across, he was always ready with a story or a lesson in life. And if you didn't like him, you were most assuredly wrong!

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Beverly Black; and he leaves behind his brother, Tom Black; his kids, Tony Black, Ike Longtin, Faith Black, Ula Longtin; and numerous grandchildren that absolutely adored him. Not to mention all the friends of his kids he treated like his own as well.

A celebration of Joel's life is being planned for the summer of 2026. In lieu of flowers send a good German Pilsner.

Arrangements are with Rowe Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Grand Rapids, MN. To sign the online guestbook or send condolences visit www.rowefuneralhomeandcrematory.com.
