Joel Chesnut Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alternatives Cremation and Funeral Service - Oklahoma City on Nov. 26, 2025.
Joel "Craig" Chesnut passed away on November 26, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born on February 3, 1945, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, to Joel Wendell and Lillian Juanita (Bullard) Chesnut.
A proud graduate of Arnett High School's Class of 1963, Craig went on to attend Oklahoma Panhandle State University. In 1966, he answered the call to serve his country and was deployed to Vietnam as a member of the United States Army. His time in the military was a defining chapter in his life and one that reflected his courage and commitment.
He married the love of his life, Sharon Bennett, in 1970, and they planted their roots in Guymon, Oklahoma. Together they proudly raised two children, Scott and Kayla.
Craig had a natural wit and an unmistakable sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. Whether sharing stories or offering a quick remark, he had a way of making people laugh and feel at ease.
He found peace and happiness in nature. An avid fisherman, Craig loved being near water-casting a line and enjoying the quiet moments that came with it. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors, pursuits that connected him to the land he called home.
Craig was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharon; his parents, Wendell and Nita; his brother Steve; his nephew Chris; and his daughter-in-law, Kandi.
He is lovingly remembered by his son Scott; daughter Kayla and her husband Jake; grandchildren Chelsea, Dakota, Tate, Tegan, Ty, Brecklyn, Jurney, and Adams; sister-in-law Vicki and her husband Neal; and nephew Spence Chesnut.
While we mourn the loss of such a wonderful man, we take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with our beloved mom, fishing to his heart's content in the great beyond. Rest in peace, Dad. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of JOEL, please visit our floral store.
