Dr. Joel Dominic R. "Jingo" Samonte Madrid
Memorial Mass: 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 23, 2024
Location: St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hampton, Virginia
Dr. Joel Dominic Ramsey "Jingo" Samonte Madrid, MD, FAAP was born in Quezon City, Philippines to the late Commodore Ramon Perez Madrid, AFP and the late Prof Esther Samonte Madrid. He was the doted on youngest of five siblings: Daphne, Raymond (deceased), Moira Spahr (deceased) and Audrey (deceased).
Jingo's faith was strong and he passed into the arms of Jesus in August, 2024.
Joel spent his childhood in Arlington and Fairfax, VA when his father was the Defense and Naval Attache in the Philippine Embassy, Washington, DC in the early 70's.
He attended Greenbrier West Elementary School in Fairfax before going home to the Philippines with his parents and completed his high school at the UP Integrated High School.
He studied at the University of the Philippines for college and medical school. He completed his residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Dr. Madrid was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He had a successful career in pediatrics, treating families in the Northern Virginia area at Covington Medical Center, Ashburn Pediatrics, Loudoun Pediatric Associates, and Reston Pediatrics. He also treated sick children at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters pediatric Urgent care in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
Dr. Madrid was loved by many family members and friends all over the world, colleagues, staff, patients and parents. His laughter and friendliness warmed all those whose lives he entered.
Jingo had a passion for his faith, travel, and food. He traveled the world, visiting more than 40 countries on faith pilgrimages and trips with family and friends. His last trip was to Lake Tahoe where he gloried in the beauty of the mountains. Joel embraced his friendships through sharing meals, and many of us will remember our favorite times laughing and enjoying his company while discovering a new restaurant.
Viewing was conducted privately with family. A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 512 Buckroe Ave Hampton, VA 23664, with reception to follow.

I will always remember his boisterous laugh and the joy he expressed with his love of life, good food, and friends. He was a mentor to me and always encouraged me and helped me to have self confidence in caring for pediatric patients. I could always count on him as a colleague as well as a friend. He will be missed by so many! God Bless

I am saddened to hear of Joel's passing. We worked together at Ashburn Pediatrics where my fondest memories of him are of him giggling in a most infectious way. My condolences to his family and friends.
