Joel Eckmann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hartson Funeral Home - Hales Corners on Aug. 18, 2025.

Joel J. Eckmann, 78, found peace at home, surrounded by his wonderful and caring wife of 56 years, Ellen (Weithaus), his son Joel (Cherie), and his daughter Anna (Joe Santeler).
Preceded in death by his dear son David, brother Terry (Jane), brother-and sister-in-law Frederick and Susan Weithaus and his nephew Jeffrey Weithaus.
Beloved grandpa to Annelise, David, Elliot and Cameron. Cherished brother to Jeffrey (Doreen). Adored brother-in-law to Barbara Weithaus, Margaret Lach (Weithaus), and Charles and Mary Weithaus. Treasured uncle to his nieces and nephews. Loyal friend to many, especially Wayne Yanke, Mike Zolecki, Dave Bethe and Laura Turley (Gehring).
Joel was born to Donald and Dolores (Wendel) Eckmann in Milwaukee and grew up in New Berlin. He was a lively kid, and those who knew him have heard many hilarious tales of his youth. Joel had a special place in his heart for his grandma Helen (Eckmann), with whom he spent much time.
Joel and his wife Ellen raised their three children on Sunrise Circle, where he taught them so many practical skills, always made time for fun, and encouraged all of their talents and dreams. He was fortunate to spend a great deal of time with his grandchildren, who always brought a smile to his face. Joel was a true family man and devoted his life to providing a safe and loving home full of laughter, hospitality and sensible advice.
For his entire life, Joel loved to be up north at his cottage on Shawano Lake, fishing, boating, doing repair work and being with his family. He was an avid golfer and card player with his crew of friends. He was a man of many talents: carpentry, plumbing, lawn care, crossword puzzles, cooking, joke telling and without fail, had the most clever ideas.
Joel was a lifelong learner and reader and always had something to share. He was a trusted ear for listening, a respected well of guidance, and a dependable neighbor. Joel was the man we called with our questions and our funny stories.
Although Joel's childhood dream was to be a cowboy, he made a dedicated career in heat and frost insulation, where he made many great friends, and was a proud retiree of Local 19.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Habitat for Humanity or Feeding America would be appreciated.
