Joel Lorin Herndon was born on March 14, 1954, in Washington D.C. to Joseph Larue and Doris Daye Herndon. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 4 - 6 p.m. at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
He gained his wings on February 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Wilson. Joel spent his informative years in Colmar Manor, Maryland and received his formal education at North Western High School. Following school, he joined the workforce as a Firefighter, Paramedic and retired as a Special Police Officer for the State of Maryland.
Joel was a member of the College Park, Maryland Moose Lodge where he was a part of the pool league with his brother Michael. Joel was also pinned as Seargeant of Arms. Joel was a Christian man and loved the Lord, his favorite verse was John 3:16.
Joel was a loving daddy and father of two wonderful daughters, whom he loved with all his heart, he had a tattoo of their names on his arm, that he always showed off. He had three grandchildren, who he cherished and loved to listen to their stories. He was loved by many and always had a good story to tell.
Preceding Joel in death were his parents, Joseph and Doris Herndon; his twin brother, Jeffrey Allen Herndon and brothers, Johnny Herndon and Michael Mamonie.
Left to cherish his memories are two daughters, Christy Sutton and husband Al Sutton, and Jamie Herndon and fiancé, Lee Thorne and three grandchildren, Tatiana Smith, Brian Ferguson Jr. (Junior), Christian Sutton and one great-grandson, Sevyn Dior Hinnant; sister, Joella and his brother, Doug.
We will truly miss you daddy, and we will always be your little girls.
