Dr. Joel Katz passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 12, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Joel was born in South Africa and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in the 1980s for medical school. There, he met the love of his life and future wife, Hilary. Together they moved to Las Vegas where he established his practice and became a renowned allergist. Joel has been serving his Las Vegas community for over two and a half decades through his medical practice as well as through philanthropy, including sponsoring Hadassah programs. He is survived by his wife, Hilary; their three children: Marissa, Zev, and Dara; his mother Amelia; and his siblings: Heather Levy (Graham); Dan Katz (Nicole); and Liora Budai (Aaron).

It has been over a year and I still greatly miss Dr Katz. He helped me as a doctor over 8 years ago when I could not get rid of a cough and could not breathe . He then became a friend to me also. We talked about when we would retire but we both liked working and wanted to continue to work. He left us far too soon. What a wonderful man and great doctor. Maureen Grimes

I was a patient of Dr. Katz for many years and just today after returning back to Las Vegas after moving out of state this past year I was shocked and saddened to find out the very sad news of his passing eariier this year. There was no one like Dr. Katz, his direct approach to help, his sense of humor, his sincere care and concern for my welfare--he was the best. I would talk to him about so many subjects when I would see him, the Golden Knights, real estate ( my profession), and how i needed to listen to his medical advice. He also would talk about his family who was obvious how much he adored, my most sincere and heartfelt condolences to his wife and family.

Dr Katz was an amazing physician in every way! Part intellect, part comedian, 2 parts thoroughness and just a pinch of quirkiness. Each of these combined to make him an outstanding, dedicated, caring and long suffering medical professional. Many times I´d receive a call after an appointment to see how I was doing. Once he called because he had been fascinated after learning what my profession was and wanted to learn more. Another time he felt uneasy about a medication he´d prescribed and wanted to try another instead. I remember as a young boy in the 60´s when our family pediatrician would make house calls. Very personally involved with our family. Intimate and concerned for each our our 7 siblings. It may seem gilding the lily here, but Dr Katz is/was the closest I´ve ever known since those good ol´ days. I Can honestly say that I love Dr Katz deeply, and I´m grieving today as I was trying to make an appointment today to see him or Brenda (who I ALSO adore) and found about dr Katz passing. A deeply sad day. The world lost one of the best and he will be eternally missed!

I am shocked and sadness. He was my allergist when I came to Vegas. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was competent. He is missed.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Katz. I was a former patient and I was planning on returning to NV and would only consider Dr. Katz as my doctor. I just learned of his passing today. My condolences to his family and friends. He was a joy to be around and he never stopped trying to improve my health. He was diligent, compassionate and a consummate professional. I say condolences to his to family and friends, because I am sure everyone who worked with Dr. Katz eventually became friends!
To his family and friends, I hope you can find solace and comfort in each other's grief, as the pain of your loss eventually becomes outshone by the joyful memories!

Dr Joel Katz Family,
I am so very sad to hear of the passing of Dr Joel Katz. I am a speech pathologist who worked for many years with Dr katz as we helped many pts with breathing and exercise problems. I remember the first time he called our office at vegas voice institute in which he asked me question after question about the care i would give certain types of pts and after a long discussion i said, did i pass the interview? He said ...yes. I will miss working with dr katz and i am ever grateful for the meticulous and sweet care he offered to each if his patients. His work was stellar! My deepest sympathies to his family.

I was shocked and deeply saddened yesterday when I learned of the passing of Dr. Joel Katz. I've known him since 2003 when I became an allergy suffering patient of his. His care and treatment allowed me to live a normal life here in Las Vegas; something I could not have done without him. I always enjoyed our conversations when we met. My condolences to his family, friends, coworkers especially Brenda, and all who knew him. He was a caring, fun, interesting person who will be greatly missed.

Dr Katz has been my doctor for years. I just heard today of his passing, I am so sorry for your loss. He´s the only one who was able to control my chronic hives. He had read about a side effect of a drug and it worked. He will be missed by his patients too.

Our family is broken hearted to hear the news about Joel. I am so sad I did not hear it until today, after the service and Shiva.
Joel made quite an impression on our family as he restructured my son's treatment, helped my family through allergy and asthma episodes and more.
We were blessed to get to know him on a more personal level through our mutual friendship with the Schlossberg family.
I adored his quit wit, brilliant mind and caring personality.
Recently he joked about how this crazy woman from Philadelphia called him to interview him to become her son's doctor, upon us moving here.
He always talked about his wife and children with so much love in his heart and always asked for mine.
What a merchant he was. Praying for his family, friends, staff and whomever 's lives he was lucky enough to know and love him. He will be greatly missed for sure.

I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Katz out as he was walking his new dog, Jack. We would often stop and talk and then continue on our walks together if time allowed. He loved to talk about his family and the trips they had planned as well as always share fruit from the trees in his yard. From a complete stranger on a sidewalk, he became a friendly face and I always left our encounters with a smile. He will be so missed. I loved this Dr, he always made you feel heard. He cared and showed compassion. He was dedicated and I´m sad I never got the chance to tell him thank you. So sorry to hear this news when I called for my annual appointment yesterday. He had been my allergist here for the last 6 years, and though I didn't know him well personally, he was always helpful and professional when I had an appointment. Way too young to leave us.

Dr Katz actually died on my birthday, just 4 days before my first appointment with him. Although I never got to meet him, my mom has - she is in his patient. He was thought of highly in our home, as well as in the community. Various other doctors have always recommended him as their first choice referral for allergy and immunology. I know Joel very well he has been my immunologist for many years and he literally saved my life. I used to tell him that every time that I saw or spoke with Joel. Dear family of Dr Katz,
I´m so sorry to hear of his passing, you will never know how much he meant to me and my family. I raised my daughter as a single mom, no family to lean on. My daughter was frequently hospitalized and I spent countless nights crying, sleepless by her hospital bed. Until we met Dr Katz and everything changed. Not only did he treat her and diagnose her, he improved our lives more than word could ever explain. She is a healthy freshman in college thanks to him, and I am a mother who was able to sleep at night while rising her instead of worrying. Nobody has impacted our lives for the better or made a difference compared to what he was able to do for us at the practice. I am so sorry to hear about Dr Katz. He was such a great guy and, of course, an excellent doctor. I miss going to his office and having a friendly chat (my child finished his shots). I loved hearing about how well his children were doing out in the world. He was so proud of them. My prayers for strength for Dr Katz´s family.
