Interment will be in Edgemont Cemetery. A public viewing was held on, Friday, February 6, 2026, from 3pm-7pm at the funeral home. Professional services entrusted to S.M. Goodson Funeral Home-Anniston. Mr. Joel McCoy was born on November 10, 1951, in the city of Louisville, Alabama to the late Issac Miles and the late Vickie McCoy. Joel's presence and easy-going nature was a beacon of light to all who knew him. Joel graduated from Barbour County High School in 1970. In 1971, Joel was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served his country for twenty-three years before retiring in 1992. Upon returning to civilian life, Joel embarked on another successful career of shaping young minds as the JROTC Instructor at Gadsden City High School in Gadsden, Alabama. He became a beloved figure to his cadets, guiding them with encouragement and wisdom. They loved and respected him not just as an instructor but as a mentor who always took the time to listen and encourage them, believing in each of them even when they couldn't believe in themselves. Along life's journey, Joel met the love of his life, Janet Jamison McCoy. On June 13, 2007, they were united in holy matrimony. Together, they built a life woven with joy, laughter, and unwavering support for their blended family. On Saturday, January 31, 2026, in the comfort of his home, Joel Mccoy answered the Master's call and peacefully slipped away and entered eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Issac Miles and Vickie McCoy; brothers, Jimmy Mccoy, Robert Curry, Willie McCoy, David Miles, and Jimmy Miles; and sisters, Ruthie Flowers, Annette McKinley, Gertrude Frye, Clara Miles, and Eula Floyd. Joel leaves a legacy of love that will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Janet McCoy; sons, Reginald (Angie) McCoy, Gerald (Coffee) McCoy, Rodney McCoy, and Tiklearus McCoy; grandchildren, Zoey McCoy, Pyper McCoy, Ena McCoy, Hailey McCoy, Laila McCoy, Reya McCoy, Zuri McCoy, Tranessia McCoy, Madison McCoy, Ayanna McCoy, Rasheed McCoy, and Radirus McCoy; siblings, John Miles, Frank Miles, Rosie McCoy, Evelyn Mcnairy, and Mary Heidelberg; and a host of other relatives and friends. Joel's legacy is one of commitment, kindness, and inspiration. He reminds us to embrace every moment with positivity and to uplift those around us. His spirit will forever shine brightly in the hearts of his family and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. S.M.
