Joel Parker Obituary
October 2, 2025
Joel Martin Parker, a beloved educator and family historian, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Samuel H. and Belle (Nadler) Parker.
Joel was predeceased by his brother, Stanley C. Parker, his brother-in-law, the Honorable Jonathan Kaplan, and his nephew David Kaplan. He is survived by his sister, Linda Kaplan, and sister-in-law, Beverly Parker. He is also lovingly remembered by his cherished nieces and nephew, Stacey Olin, Scott Kaplan, and Susan Price, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and his new friends at River Valley, all who brought him immense joy.
A lifelong student and teacher of history, Joel earned his undergraduate degree in West Virginia and a Master's from the University of Bridgeport. He devoted 34 years to teaching history at Trumbull High School, where he inspired generations of students with his deep knowledge and engaging lessons. In his commitment to connecting history to real life, he was known for bringing community speakers into his classroom, showing his students the real life relevance of whatever subject they were studying.
His passion for history extended well beyond the classroom. Joel's expertise earned him credit in a published history textbook, and he never stopped sharing his love of learning. He hosted a high school trivia show, blending education and entertainment with his trademark wit and enthusiasm. After retiring, he volunteered at a local television station, where he remained active on the board of directors, continuing to contribute to his community in meaningful ways. A member of Mensa since 1991, he remained curious, creative, and dedicated to learning throughout his life.
Known as the family historian, Joel lovingly preserved family memories through digital "Smileboxes," reminding loved ones that every shared moment was history worth keeping.
Joel will be remembered for his kindness, intellect, and devotion to family, students, and community. His legacy endures through the stories he told and the memories he preserved.
A private service was held on October 6, 2025.

Yesterday
One of my College Professors pulled me aside to say how impressed he was with my knowledge of U.S. Govt. and how did I know so much. It was all MR. PARKER THS - my senior year he drilled us everyday on how many branches of Govt, what they were called, what was their function on & on until we knew it by heart. So thank you Mr. Parker for making me a stand out - You Rocked!!!

Mr. Parker was my favorite teacher, one of the few I actually learned from. He taught me government. I enjoyed his class immensely.thoughts and prayers to his family

I was lucky to have known Mr. Parker at Trumbull High School. Years passed and lo and behold there was Mr. Parker again sitting at a front table in River Valley....we shared smiles, stories and an introduction to my mom! He was one special guy!

Mr. Parker was a wonderful teacher. I wasn´t the greatest student (I didn´t apply myself) but I remember enjoying his class and I learned a lot from him. Plus he was a very nice guy. Sorry to hear about his passing.

Mr. Parker started the change in my life. Our quiet moments after class where a quiet student would ask about the civil war and other wars how it impacted the course of the world.
