Joel Phillips, age 72, passed away on November 17, 2025. He was the son of the late John and Bernice (Smith) Phillips and the brother of the late John Phillips. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marie “Tina” (Sweeney) Phillips; his cherished children, Lauren Fabian (Phil) and Elaina Phillips (Rob Fisher); and his beloved dog, Lady. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Cameron Scott-Phillips, Mariah Scott-Phillips, Cassidy Fisher, Jordan Fisher, Claire Fabian, and Alison Fabian. Joel is also survived by his siblings Jacque Ross (Frank), Michael Phillips (Kathy), Bunny Thiboutot, Val Phillips, Pete Phillips, and sister-in-law Donna Phillips (John’s wife) as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Born in Pontiac, MI and raised in Folcroft, PA, Joel lived for a short time in California and Louisiana. Joel worked from the time he was 12 years old at various jobs. He learned how to fix cars, and maintain houses and apartments by working with his father and siblings on various automobiles and properties. His employment history was varied, and included working as a welder at Sun Ship in Marcus Hook, PA, working on oil rigs in New Orleans, LA, running a pool hall in Folcroft, PA, working as a boiler operator in Eddystone, PA, and working as a maintenance mechanic at Rollins Environmental, in Bridgeport, NJ.
He met the love of his life, Tina, in Wildwood, NJ, when he was just 19 years old. They married young and built a beautiful life and legacy together. They lived in Clifton Heights, PA and then moved to Folcroft, PA, where they lived above the pool hall. They settled in Prospect Park, PA, to raise their family. They just celebrated their 50th anniversary in February of 2025!
Joel was a devoted member of St. Madeline Church in Ridley Park, PA, and attended services faithfully. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and cryptograms and watching the Phillies and the Eagles – GO BIRDS! He loved going to Wildwood during the summer and was a member at Nassau Swim Club where he enjoyed talking to old friends and making new ones. He loved antiques and spent many years collecting unique pieces. He took great pride in his collection and delighted in sharing the stories behind each find.
Joel had a gift for storytelling and a personality that could light up any room. He had many close friends and made new ones wherever he went. He was deeply devoted to his family and took great joy in supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their activities. Whether cheering from the sidelines or sharing laughter around the table, he was always present, proud, and full of love.
Joel will be remembered as a great friend, devoted husband, father, and “Pop-Pop” whose kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to Joel’s Visitation on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 10:30 am to 12:00pm, followed by a funeral service at 12:00pm at The Knoetgen-Donohue Funeral Home, located at 746 Kedron Ave, Morton, PA 19070.
