For over 29 years JoEllen was more than our neighbor, she was our friend. She was kind, funny and full of quiet wisdom. Her presence next door wasn´t just comforting, it was a gift. Her kindness and humor were constants in our lives and I know we will look back fondly on the conversations and laughter we shared. We will never forget how during Hurricane Sandy we came together as neighbors, supporting one another through a very tough time. We always knew JoEllen was thoughtful, but it wasn´t until years later that we learned of her unspoken act of kindness. When our children were young and I was racing home from work to meet their school buses, sometimes not making it in time, JoEllen was already watching from her house. She kept an eye out for their buses and made sure they got in the house safely. I never asked her to and she never mentioned it until years later. Her selflessness spoke volumes about the kind of person she was, caring for others in the most meaningful ways. I´ll never forget that. Our deepest sympathies to her family. She will be greatly missed.
