JoEllen Mitchell Remole Ellis, daughter of Veyne and Mildred Mitchell, was born in Mexico, Missouri on June the twenty-seventh in 1956. A mid-westerner at heart, JoEllen moved to Moberly, Missouri where she grew up with her brother Jim Mitchell. After graduating from Moberly High School in 1974, JoEllen attended Moberly Area Community College and the University of Missouri where she gained valuable insight into potential career paths, ultimately pursuing a lifelong dream at twenty-one years old to become a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines until they closed their doors in 1991. During this time, JoEllen adventured in Miami, New York, and Chicago, finally settling in Atlanta, Georgia in 1980.
Beginning a new phase of her life, JoEllis, in her marriage to Bradford D. Remole, was blessed with two wonderful sons, Clifton (1982) and Clay (1989). It was during this time that she decided to pursue another passion: working with students. JoEllen began work with the Cobb County School district as a paraprofessional in Physical Education and Kindergarten, and later as high school coordinator of substitutes and discipline clerk.
In 2000, she married James Nicholas Ellis III, opening her arms and heart to a new and growing family including Jay Ellis and Elizabeth Ellis King. During these years, JoEllen had the honor of helping open two new Cobb County schools: Cheatham Hill Elementary and Kell High School. After her time at Kell, JoEllen continued her passion for community, education, and students as a substitute teacher at schools all over Cobb County.
A true servant throughout her careers and in her personal life, JoEllen gave time to serving those less fortunate and teaching others to serve. At Kell High School, she founded Kell's Angels where she modeled compassion and philanthropic ideals to high school students, teaching the value of serving others. JoEllen served as the Co-Charity Person for Silverliners, a retired group of flight attendants, and spent time with Calvary Children's Home and MUST Ministries. An adventurer at heart, JoEllen traveled the world experiencing new cultures and continued to serve others on mission trips. JoEllen will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her hospitality, infectious smile, enthusiastic personality, friendliness, and life-long love of learning. She was a beacon of light to those around her, her faith in Christ, love of God, and dedication to prayer evident in every facet of her life.
Her crowning achievement and the legacy she will leave behind is her family: children Clifton and Brittany Remole, Clay Remole, Elizabeth and Jeff King, James and Erin Ellis, and her precious "Grands," Stetson Remole, Savannah Remole, Maisy Grace Remole, Vail King, and Simone King. To them she will live on in memory as Grammy JoJo, their beloved grandmother.
