Johannes (John) G. Rutten, 86, of Appleton, passed away quietly at his home surrounded by the love of his family.  John was born on September 14, 1936, in Nijmegen, The Netherlands (Holland), son of Theodore and Hendrika (Gerrits) Rutten.  John married Barbara Brandt at St. Thomas More on May 11, 1979, recently celebrating 44 years of marriage. 

 

John came to Menasha on April 30, 1955, at the age of 18.  Before coming to the States, he worked at his parent’s bakery in the Netherlands.  John then worked at George Banta Co. in Menasha, Wi, retiring after 41 ½ years. He enjoyed model railroad, woodworking, cooking, baking and traveling.

 

He is survived by his loving wife: Barbara (Brandt) Rutten; survived by four children from a previous marriage: Timothy (Cheryl) Rutten, Julie (Al) Hoerning, Theodore (Kelly) Rutten, and William Rutten; grandchildren: Courtney (Jack) Moore, Jennifer (Fiancée, Shane LeBreck) Rutten, Dillon Rutten (Loren Bushyhead), and Brandi Rutten (Luke Miller), John is further survived by his siblings: Gerarda “Gerrie” Stoehr, and Matilda “Tilly” Stier; sister-in-Law: Chris Rutten; as well as his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Ronald Rutten, brothers-in-law: Herbert Stoehr, and Joseph Stier; and father and mother-in-law: Ralph and Helen Brandt.

 

The Funeral Liturgy for John will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 26, 2023, at St Mary’s Parish, 312 S State St, Appleton, Wi, with Father Bill Swichtenberg officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of Mass.  Online condolences may be shared at www.wichmannfuneralhomes.com
