John E. Alberghini, of Barnstable Village, Cape Cod, MA, formerly of South Glastonbury, CT, passed away on May 26, 2024. He was born May 3, 1935, in Hyannis, Ma to the late Joseph and Alma (Cattabriga) Alberghini. He was the husband for more than 59 years of Joan Alden Alberghini. He leaves two sons David J. Alberghini and wife Karen, of Colchester, CT and John C. Alberghini and wife Leah of Chesapeake, VA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Emily (Alex) Ochse, Matthew Alberghini, Annie (Riley) White, Gavin Alberghini and great grandsons Henry and Jack Ochse. He is also survived by sister Jane Morse of Yarmouthport, MA. He was predeceased by his sister Doris Quealey. He leaves two nieces Eleanor Quealey and Claudia Alden as well as three nephews, Paul Quealey, John and James (Liz) Morse.
John was a graduate of Barnstable High School class of 1953. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from College of the Holy Cross. John was awarded a Howard Hughes Fellowship to Purdue University where he completed his Master's Degree in Physics. He was awarded a Ph.D in Physics Education from University of Sarasota. In 1961 he joined United Technologies Research Laboratories, East Hartford, CT as a scientist in Nuclear Physics Research.
In 1969 John accepted a one year position with the Physics Department of the University of Connecticut, Hartford Campus. He then joined the faculty at Manchester Community College, Manchester, CT, where he served as professor of physics and Department Chair for 26 Years. While at MCC, Dr. Alberghini was a major contributor to the development of an Associate Degree in Engineering Science which was transferable to the University of Connecticut. In addition, he developed many curricula in his Department of Physical Sciences. After retiring in 1996 he was elected Professor Emeritus at MCC. During his tenure at MCC, he also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Hartford and Central Connecticut State University.
In 1997, John and Joan retired to Cape Cod, where John enjoyed a number of years as adjunct Professor at Cape Cod Community College. Fulfilling wishes John and Joan delighted in many memorable trips abroad.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 10 am at St. Francis Xavier Church, 347 South Street, Hyannis, MA. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Francis Xaver Church, 347 South Street, Hyannis, MA 02601.

Dear Joan,
