VOORHEESVILLE - John F. Allen, 72, of Voorheesville, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026. John was born in Albany, the son of the late William H. Allen Jr. and Mary Joan Reilly Allen. He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, and lived in Texas for a short period, but otherwise always lived in the Albany area. He was a carpenter by trade, until joining the N.Y.S. Dept. of Taxation and Finance, where he grew as an expert at Tax Law. John excelled in sports in his youth, especially baseball. John remained an avid sports fan through his life, with favorites being football and horse racing. John was always up to date on current events. He will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor, his sharp wit, and storytelling. He loved living vicariously through his sons.
John is survived by his wife, Cyndy Allen; his sons, Gregory J. Allen, of Saratoga, and Shane P. Allen, of Brooklyn; his brothers, James Allen (Janet), of Estero, Fla., Thomas Allen, of Peoria, Ariz., and Robert Allen (Kathleen), of Wilmington, Mass.; his sister-in-law, Lisa Allen, of Jackson Springs, N.C.; and by his nieces and nephew, Morgan and Brittany Allen, and James Allen. He was predeceased by his son, Justin K. Allen; as well as his brothers, William H. Allen III and Terrance Allen.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Friday afternoon, at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home, on Friday, prior to the service, 12 to 2 p.m. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
