It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John P. Arakelian, who found eternal peace on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on June 7th, 1936, John passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by the loving prayers of his daughter Colleen and her family. John now rejoins his beloved wife of 52 years, Alicia (nee McCormick), who preceded him in death to heaven nearly ten years ago.
John will be forever cherished and deeply missed by his beloved children, his always loving and caring daughter Colleen P. (Thomas) Wilhelm and his favorite son Daniel P. (Makiko) Arakelian, and his treasured grandchildren, Sarah and Spencer Wilhelm, and Megumi Grace and Angela Rosalicia Arakelian. He was the dear brother of Rosemary Arakelian (the late Dean) Jensen and a fond uncle to Dane Jensen, Mary Interrante, Rose (Marc) Babiar, Michael(Paula), Linda(Travis) Maitland, George(Sandy), Ara Jr., Lisa(Steve) Forsberg,Tricia (Kevin) Wistrand, as well as Mary Alicia (Antonio) Paternoste, and Francis Alberico. John also had several godchildren. He was the dear brother-in-law of Patti (the late Sergio) Alberico. John was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Rose(nee Badjaksuzian) Arakelian, siblings; Ara(Josie) Arakelian and George(Judy) Arakelian.
A former wrestler at Marquette University, John remained an avid sports fan throughout his life. He enthusiastically supported his hometown and alma mater teams: Marquette University High School, the Marquette University Warriors/Golden Eagles, the University of Wisconsin Badgers, the Milwaukee Bucks and Brewers, and of course, his beloved Green Bay Packers.
For the past three years, John found great joy living at St. Camillus, where he made many wonderful friends and actively participated in activities that kept him engaged. He especially loved singing in the choir and attending chapel services led by the caring priests.
Attorney John P. Arakelian dedicated over 50 years to his law practice, leaving a lasting impact on both his clients and the legal community. A devoted public servant, he also served as Chairman of the Milwaukee County Democratic Party. He played an active role in rallying support for Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign and was personally thanked with a handshake by President Carter at the White House.
A celebration of John's Life will take place Friday June 6 at San Camillo West Chapel, 10200 W. Bluemound Road from 1:30 PM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 PM. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow the Mass. The interment will be on Saturday June 7th, Dad's Birthday at Holy Cross Cemetery for a final farewell.
