John Ariagno Obituary

Published by Cartmell - Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home - Downtown on Jul. 30, 2017.
John Ariagno, longtime resident of Buzzards Bay, and most recently Plymouth, passed away peacefully at his home on 7/30/2017 surrounded by his wife Laurie (LeClair) of 59 years and his family. John was born and raised in New Bedford, MA and is predeceased by his parents John Ariagno Sr and Dorothy (DeTerra), his grandparents Battista Ariagno and Maria (Busnengo), Andrew DeTerra and Ada (Grimshaw), and his sister Gail Nuttall of Buzzards Bay. In addition to his wife, John leaves four sons, Ron of Los Angeles, CA, David and wife Judy of Cataumet, MA, Dan and wife Amy of Plymouth, MA, and James and wife Lisa of Los Angeles, CA. He was the loving grandfather to eleven grandchildren, Alex, Nicholas, Max, Caroline, Jacqui, Abby, Andrew, Alexa, Olivia, Bentley, and Chloe, and the loving uncle of Casey Nuttall and wife Lynn of Hingham, MA. John joined the U.S. Air Force after high school in 1956 and later settled and raised a family in Buzzards Bay where he was the owner/operator of the Exxon service station and Betty Ann’s Dairy Freeze. He also worked at Douglas Auto Parts and Kittansett Country Club. John was one of the founding fathers of youth ice hockey in the Town of Bourne and coached for many years. He also received several awards from Bourne High School hockey for his contributions and was proud to have purchased the first banner hung at Gallo Ice Arena for the Bourne High School team after they won their first ever conference championship in 1977. In retirement, John and Laurie loved spending winters in Bonita Springs, Florida where he enjoyed playing tennis, pickle ball, and shuffleboard. He was also a self-taught keyboard player. John always made time for everyone and was exceptionally proud of his family. A celebration of John’s life will be held on Thursday August 3rd from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the Davis Funeral Home 373 Court St. North Plymouth. Relatives and friends invited. Burial will be private at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bourne High School Hockey, 75 Waterhouse Rd, Bourne, MA 02532.

John was a member of the 8 am 'old gaffers' tennis group at the north courts in Citrus Park. We will miss his sense of humor and sportsmanship. Occasionally we would tackle the interface between music and computers with variable success. My condolences to the family

Dear Laurie and the Ariagno family. I was very sad to hear that John had died and believe me the town has lost a wonderful person. He was a a very giving and warm person and he gave much of his time to our youth of the town. May your memories ease the pain in your hearts and just remember that some day we all will meet again. God Bless you all.
