Roger was an avid contra dance writer and would share his dances with any caller who was interested. He would often call dances at the Thursday Night Contra in Glenside. He was also a regular dancer at the Mostly Waltz program in Broomall.

Roger was a long-time member of our dance community and one of my favorite dance partners! This is perhaps not the most flattering photo, but it does show him deep in the moment of doing something he loved - contra dancing!
Once he showed up at a dance with one heck of a black eye. "Dear lord, what happened - were you in a fight?", which was pretty unlikely, if you knew anything about how even tempered he was. "Sort of," he said, "More like a disagreement with a dance shoe." It turned out that his shoelace had gotten caught in the little hook on another dancer's boot and when he spun away, he went flying. Surprisingly, he wasn't mad about it - "Just one of those things," he said. I had been guilty of wearing those exact kind of dance shoes and never wore them again.
