John Auxter Obituary
John Arthur Auxter, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on June 30, 2025, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri. Born on November 20, 1954, in Kirksville, John grew to be a man whose kindness and compassion left an indelible mark on all who had the honor of knowing him.
A proud graduate of Kirksville High School in 1973, John's journey through life led him to a rewarding career as a cable operator at Baker Hughes in Claremore, Oklahoma, where he met his lovely wife Dolly of 22 years. His work ethic and dedication were matched only by his gentle spirit, which endeared him to colleagues and customers alike.
John was a man of many passions. He cherished the simple joys of life, often found enjoying a round of golf or engaging in the strategic complexities of chess, where he was known for his skill and thoughtfulness. In even simpler times, he loved to soar the skies as a pilot, embracing the freedom that flight provided him. More than anything, he was a loving husband to his dear wife, Dolly Auxter, with whom he shared countless cherished moments.
John's personality was a radiant beacon of warmth—he was known as "Uncle Bear," a title he wore with pride. He had an unwavering willingness to help anyone in need, and his love for family was profound. He is survived by his loving mother Erma (Eskra) Auxter, brothers, Don (Katie) Auxter and Dr. Tom (Terry) Auxter, along with his cherished sisters, Dr. Jackie Auxter and Anna Marie (Greg) Dabney. Each will carry forward the rich legacy of kindness, love, and laughter that John embodied.
He joins in eternal rest his father, Dr. Jack Auxter, and his grandparents, whose memories will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
A visitation to honor John's life will be held on July 7, 2025, at Playle Rimer Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Kirksville, Missouri, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service commencing at 1:30 PM. The gathering will serve as a tribute to a life well-lived, one that inspired all to reach out with kindness and love.
As we remember John Arthur Auxter, let us celebrate the warmth of his spirit and the legacy of love he has left behind—a legacy that continues to inspire us to show up for one another, to embrace life fully, and to cherish the precious moments spent with family and friends.
