John Charles Barkley, 82, of Belmont passed away September 16, 2019 at his residence. He was born on January 1, 1937 in Mecklenburg County to the late James and Loretta Barkley. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a daughter, Sabrina Barkley Caskey; Grandson, Christopher "Chris" Caskey, Sr.; and brothers, Jim and Bob Barkley. John was a United States Army Veteran. He worked for Overhead Doors of Charlotte for many years and retired from Cox Door in sales/service. He loved Duke Blue Devils basketball, riding motorcycles especially dirt bikes, climbing hills, and primitive camping in the Uwharrie mountains with his family. John also had a special love for his pet dog, "Blue."
Survivors include his children, John "Johnny" Barkley Jr. (Tamara), Steve Barkley (Jena), Audrey Barkley Fogarty, Tracy Ewing, Lori Pressley, and Crystal Powers; 7 grandchildren, Stephanie, Patrick, Tristin, Michael, Bradley, Zack, and Emily; and 5 great grandchildren, Sabrina, Aubrey, MaKayla, Christopher "CJ" Caskey, Jr., and Hunter.
A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services, Mt. Holly with Chaplain Walt Windley officiating. A visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service from 12:30 p.m - 1:00 p.m.
