John Leroy Barnhart, 81, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church (206 SW Walnut St). Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, at 10:00 a.m.
Born on October 15, 1943, John dedicated 48 years of his life to Payless Cashways/UBC, where he served in various roles including truck driver, outside sales representative, salesman, and manager. His strong work ethic and steady presence left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.
John had a zest for life and found joy in the simple pleasures. He enjoyed playing chair volleyball, taking long drives, feeding the birds, and watching westerns on TV. A talented and determined craftsman, he built three homes over the years - a testament to his perseverance and skill. Above all, John was a caring father and a supportive, loving husband who always put his family first.
John's life was one of kindness, dedication, and quiet strength. He will be remembered with love and gratitude by all whose lives he touched.
John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Kristin (Dave) Whitney of Evergreen, Colorado, and Roberta Barnhart of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and three cherished grandsons, Nathan (Kelly), Ryan, and Kevin. He is also survived by his sister, Barb; and his two nephews, Mike and Rod. John L. Barnhart Live Stream
