Obituary
With much love spread and many memories made, our beloved Michael accepted his angel's invitation into the kingdom on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at the Margaret Cochran Corbin Veterans Affairs Medical Campus in New York, New York. With somber hearts, we take comfort in knowing that the heavens have gained an extra dose of love and laughter sealed in the most infectious smile.
John Michael Barr was born February 13, 1959 in Trenton, New Jersey to Patricia A. Barr and John R. Barr. Educated in the Trenton Public School System, Michael's honorable service in the United States Army as a Combat Medic took him around the world, where he proudly served at each duty station before settling in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area. After working extensively in the construction industry, Michael returned home upon retiring, at which time Trenton welcomed him with open arms. Michael spent his golden years in the community that raised him, immersed in the loving company of friends and family.
Michael was a hardcore football aficionado who relished in spending his weekends cheering his Ohio State Buckeyes and New York Giants to victory. A culinary maestro, Michael loved crafting delectable cuisines. He exuded a contagious zest for life, radiating an infectious exuberance as he chased happiness daily. A true music lover, his life was a playlist of laughter and unforgettable moments that lives on in the many memories he made sharing his favorite songs with those he loved.
Michael now joins his father, John R. Barr and brother-in-law, Alfonso Slaughter in the heavenly kingdom.
Michael's precious memory will be cherished and forever alive in the hearts of his wife of 47 years, Cassandra Barr; eldest daughter, Santisha Taylor (Nekoesha); daughter, Keyanna Jones (Albert); son, John Michael Barr Jr. (Tammy); mother, Patricia Barr; sisters, Lisa Slaughter, Rachelle Barr, and Tanya Barr; brothers, David Barr (Earlene) and Dana Barr; six grandchildren: Alexus, Malachi, Eugene Jr., Chloe, Phoebe, and Avery; 3 great-grandchildren: Essence, Erin, and Euri; special friend, Janice Purnell, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
